The weather was perfect. The window of opportunity was small. An aerial shot was called for. I received a call I was hoping for from a good friend and an amazing architectural photographer, Bernard O’ Sullivan, from Inside Out Photography to go along with him during one of his aerial shoots for Manchester United. It was very short notice as the weather had to be perfect and of course a helicopter had to be available. The only time I had been in a helicopter was when I did some corporate work at the British Grand Prix for Shell Oil but unfortunately it was more like a flying noisy bus. This time it much more fun as the we lifted off and then the nose was tilted down and we shot forward at 45 degrees to the ground off before zooming skyward. Once above United’s training complex the real magic of the helicopter was revealed as we hovered in the small Raven 4 ‘copter which could turn on the proverbial sixpence. Sadly the flight only lasted about half an hour but it was a great experience.
